The Carnival

The carnival was not what we would call a carnival, but a parade. And it was not tram 6. It was bus 6. Just for your information if you take tram 6 going over the river towards Klein (small) Basel and you stay on the tram to the end of the line you can see the German border crossing. Guess how we know? The ride is scenic and we enjoyed it.

On the way back into the city, children in costumes and then a man in a costume boarded the tram. Our plan was finally in place. We would follow these people. At each stop we would watch to see if they were preparing to get off or not. Then when tram 6 had gone to the end of the line the opposite direction we had taken to the German border earlier they all got off. We followed. They stood waiting for the bus and so did we. They got on bus 6. So did we. Then finally we arrived at the carnival. Sort of a very cleaned up version of a Mardi Gras parade with floats. Instead of throwing beads, they throw fruit, vegetables, and candy. Oh yes, and chicken feet. Real chicken feet. Olivia caught one and came to show me the" fake" chicken foot. You should have seen her face when she was informed it was real. Priceless. I caught a garlic bulb...
